A Lubbock man has pleaded guilty to a murder that occurred back in 2019. On January 16, 2019 the Lubbock Police Department was dispatched to 37th Street and Avenue P on reports of shots fired.

KAMC news reported that at the scene police discovered the body of 41-year old Jimmy Hernandez-Rodriguez outside on the ground where a vehicle pulled up. A man now identified as 25-year-old Miguel Garza, got out of the car and a witness then states that Garza shot at Rodriguez and got back into the vehicle with Anthony Alvarez as the getaway driver and Mikayla Solarzano in the back seat.

Rodriguez was still breathing and had a faint pulse before being transported to University Medical Center for his injuries and then later being declared deceased. Garza told police that he shot Rodriguez because he thought he was a danger to his family but it was later discovered that he just wanted to steal Rodriguez' backpack. This was not the first instance of theft by the duo as text messages revealed that Alvarez had told people he was out committing robberies and looking for unsuspecting victims.

The trio was also connected to another robbery that occurred on January 11, 2019 on 66th Street and Avenue S. Garza was arrested on January 17, 2019 and was charged with two separate charges of Speeding and one charge of Murder while being held in the Lubbock County Detention on a $200,000 bond but due to other charges has remained on hold.
