Lubbock Man Engages Police in Pursuit and Rolls Vehicle
A Lubbock man was arrested following a police pursuit in Southeast Lubbock over the weekend. A police officer with the Lubbock Police Department was on patrol Saturday, October 14, in the area of 120th Street and Avenue P just before 7:30 p.m.. KAMC news reports that it was in this area that police noticed 37-year-old Ira Herrera who had been previously involved in a domestic disturbance in the 2200 block of 88th Street.
It was then that an officer attempted to stop Herrera but he immediately drove off southbound of Avenue P engaging the officer in a vehicle pursuit. Herrera then drove his vehicle into a barricade at the intersection of 130th Street and Avenue P but continued east in his car.
Later in the pursuit is when Herrera is said to have rolled the vehicle into a ditch in the 1700 block of East 130th Street before striking a utility pole stopping the car. Herrera did sustain moderate injuries and transported to University Medical Center for treatment. Herrera was later arrested and transported from University Medical Center to the Lubbock County Detention Center.
As per the publishing of this article, Herrera remains in custody with five charges which include Stalking, Evading Arrest Detention with a Vehicle, Leaving the Scene of an Accident, Terroristic Threat Causing Fear of Imminent Severe Bodily Injury, and a DWI for the Third or More Time.
