Lubbock Man Engages Police in High Speed Vehicle Pursuit
A Lubbock man and teenager were arrested after attempting to evade from police. The Lubbock County Sheriff's Department states that on Monday, January 29, around 6:40 p.m. a deputy witnessed a vehicle almost crash into another vehicle.
This incident occurred on 19th Street and Albany Avenue where the deputy attempted to issue a routine traffic stop but the vehicle fled engaging police in a pursuit. KAMC news reports that during the pursuit is when the vehicle struck another vehicle as it made its way through West Lubbock. Due to the damages sustained from striking the other vehicle eventually came to a stop in the area near 26th Street and Milwaukee Avenue.
During the pursuit is when a Lubbock County Sheriff's Office vehicle was struck by another vehicle causing the police vehicle to flip and resulting in minor injuries to the deputy. The driver, now identified as 32-year-old Geraldo Sanchez, and an unnamed 16-year-old passenger fled from the disabled vehicle on foot engaging police again in another pursuit. Sanchez and the 16-year-old were both eventually taken into custody.
The 16-year-old was charged with Evading Arrest and transported to the Lubbock County Juvenile Justice Center. Sanchez was transported to the Lubbock County Detention Center and charged with Evading Arrest and Reckless Driving. As per the publishing of this article, Sanchez is no longer listed in the Lubbock County Detention Center and has since bonded out.
