Lubbock Doctor Sentenced for Indecent Assault on Female Employee
A former Lubbock anesthesiologist was found guilty of inappropriately touching a female employee back in 2023, but he just recently received his sentence.
Lubbock Doctor's Indecent Assault Case
It all started back in September 2023 when 71-year-old Jeffrey Colvin invited an employee into his office for a procedural checkup. You see, Dr. Colvin wanted to expand his business to cover fat transfer procedures. In order to gather public interest, he decided to urge his employees to undergo these procedures as a sign of confidence and to promote positive results.
Well, it's alleged that after numerous accounts of Dr. Colvin asking one employee in particular if he can conduct this procedure, the employee eventually consented.
That day, during everyone else's lunch break, she entered his office to be examined. The standard practice for examinations involving breasts and/ genitalia, such as this, are normally conducted in a specialized room with a chaperone. This was not the case in this instance.
The female employee trusted Dr. Colvin, as she mentioned that all the employees were as close as family there at his practice. She consented to him touching her body for the sake of the examination, including her breasts, thighs, and abdomen.
Dr. Colvin then allegedly requested to examine her genitals for potential fat reserves to use for the procedure. She consented to this as well.
However, once Dr. Colvin declared that she does not need the procedure, his hand remained where it was on her inner thighs. He was then accused of performing indecent acts and asking her inappropriate sexual questions that made her feel unsafe.
LPD investigators determined that both stories from the victim and Dr. Colvin lined up, along with the events that unfolded that day.
The woman quit her job the following day and filed a lawsuit against the doctor.
Dr. Colvin's Sentence
Recently, the presiding judge deemed jailtime unnecessary in this case, although accountability must be made. Therefore, once his conviction is affirmed, Dr. Colvin is ordered to serve 18 months on probation along with a $4,000 fine and 40 hours of community service.
He was also ordered by the judge to write a formal letter of apology to the former employee once her civil lawsuit is resolved.
Other steps tied to his probation include not being alone with any other patients in the future and six weeks of counseling for sexual behavior.
