A Komodo Dragon weighing several hundred pounds died in a zoo fire yesterday.

The female dragon, "Scatha" was killed in a fire which was apparently started by a heater.

"Scatha" lived at the San Antonio Zoo. A male dragon, "Bubba" was unhurt.

Several other smaller reptiles also perished in the fire.

Komodo Dragons have been known to live for as long as 30 years. In their native habitats on the islands of eastern Indonesia, Komodo Dragons hunt small and domestic animals, such as snakes, chickens, goats, cats and dogs, and occasionally larger animals, including water buffalo.
