A dust storm warning and a high wind warning are in effect for the South Plains, southern Panhandle, and rolling plains through 10 p.m. tonight.

West to southwest winds between 35 and 45 miles per hour with gusts of around 70 miles per hour are expected this evening.

Widespread blowing dust can reduce visibility to ¼ mile or less, and travel may be hazardous in some areas and is discouraged, especially for high profile vehicles.

Lightweight outdoor objects such as decorations and trash cans should be secured.

A Red Flag Warning is also in effect for the South Plains and southern Panhandle as well through 6 p.m. Low relative humidity combined with high winds creates high fire danger.

Due to the high winds and blowing dust, the City of Lubbock’s Caliche Canyon Landfill and the West Texas Region Disposal Facility are closed for the day.

As the weather changes, we’ll keep you updated.
