The City of Lubbock continues to do well at getting the coronavirus vaccine into the arms of people who need and want it.

On Saturday, February 27th, the City of Lubbock sent out on update saying more than 38,000 people had received their first COVID-19 vaccine, while over 17,700 people had received their second dose.

It's a sign that many in Lubbock want to get vaccinated and get back to a normal life. But all across the state and the nation, many are asking how many will actually want to be vaccinated.

A new UT/Texas Tribune poll released today shows that only 36 percent of Texans will rush out to get vaccinated once the vaccine is available to them, and that number keeps dropping:

Even so, 36% said they’ll get vaccinated against COVID-19 as soon as it’s available to them, 28% said they will not, and 16% said they’re not sure. Another 15% said they’ve already been vaccinated, meaning just over half have either been vaccinated or are planning to be when they can. In a poll last June, 59% said they would get a COVID-19 vaccine if it was available at low cost; in the October 2020 UT/TT Poll, that number fell to 42%.

Health experts say Texas needs to get 75-90 percent of residents vaccinated for herd immunity to kick in.

As of Sunday in Lubbock, there have been at least 48,160 coronavirus cases. Add to that the number of people who are being vaccinated, and numbers begin to look even better in Lubbock. That could be one reason why we are seeing fewer and fewer new cases in and around Lubbock, and under 500 active cases right now.
