Fearless Champion has been racing down the field during pregame for the last 10 years, serving as the Masked Raider's steed through thick and thin. His next trip down the turf at Jones AT&T Stadium will be his last when he leads the team out against Oklahoma State on November 20th, 2021.

“Fearless Champion has faithfully served Texas Tech in a way unlike any other horse in the history of the Masked Rider Program,” said Stephanie Rhode, director of the Spirit Program, in a news release. “He has set a record with the number of appearances he has made and the people he has met during his 10 years of service. He truly has lived up to his name.”

Fearless has been running for the team since his first appearance in 2012 at the Meineke Car Care Bowl. During his run, he traveled a total of 150,000 miles and made 2,604 appearances with 10 different Masked Riders. Fearless Champion did miss a few games across 2019 and 2020, but an Aggie horse named Cody stepped in to fill the role.

According to Texas Tech, Fearless and all his riders will be recognized during halftime of the football game. Fearless will continue to make in-person appearances for the remainder of the school year before officially retiring in the summer.

I have no idea what Fearless Champion will do when his duties are finished, but I bet there will be plenty of rolling around in the dirt.

As far as the game goes that will come after the historic run, Oklahoma State is very good and is coming to Lubbock after hammering the TCU Horned Frogs, who are dealing with their own problems.

Oklahoma State is a very good defensive team, ranked in the top 20 in several categories and highly thought of in the conference and beyond. For perspective, Iowa State's defense is also good and they gave up 41 points to the Donovan Smith-led Red Raiders. I'm not saying that will happen again. But I'm not not saying that, either.

With Fearless Champion making his final run, the broadcast booth suspended, the stadium being in blackout mode and the Rally Fox being spotted at the stadium this week, the game is shaping up to be one of those really weird nights at The Jones.

That said, I'm taking the Cowboys to win 35-24 over the Red Raiders. The weirdness is unpredictable, though. Anything can happen at night in Jones AT&T Stadium.
