Tuesday motorists in Lubbock will experience traffic delays due to a fatal auto accident from earlier in the morning.

The two-car accident occurred at 9 a.m. this morning at the intersection of 82nd and Quaker when a Chevrolet SUV collided with a BMW sedan at a high rate of speed according to the Lubbock Police Department.

The BMW was torn in half in the collision and caught fire with the driver being taken to UMC with serious injuries. The driver of Chevy Tahoe was ejected from her vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene.

LPD urges motorists to avoid the area while accident investigators work the scene. Traffic is being re-routed for east bound traffice on 82nd street approaching Quaker Avenue while north bound traffic on Quaker approaching 82nd street will be re-routed as well. West bound traffic on 82nd street are down to one lane of traffic.
