The Texas Department of Public Safety has released more information on a deadly 3-vehicle accident that happened in Martin County, located between Midland and Lamesa.

The accident was first reported just before 2 p.m. on Friday, January 22, 2021, about 8 miles north of Midland on State Highway 349.

An accident report states that a Buick LaCrosse traveling south on State Highway 349 failed to control speed and nearly struck a vehicle that was making a turn onto the highway.

In trying to avoid a collision, the driver of the LaCrosse swerved and crossed into oncoming traffic on the other side of the highway, striking a northbound Hyundai passenger car.

The Hyundai then crashed into the semi-truck driving next to it in the right-hand lane, causing a 3-vehicle accident that left the Hyundai's front-side crushed and mangled.

The driver of the Hyundai was killed in the accident and identified as 56-year-old Toni Place of Midland, Texas. The driver of the LaCrosse was taken to Midland Memorial Hospital with non life-threatening injuries and is identified as 31-year-old Casey R. Ketchersid of Lamesa.

The driver of the semi-truck was not identified and it is not believed they sustained any injuries. Texas DPS is still investigating the direct cause of the accident, and it's unclear if Ketchersid could face any charges.
