Amarillo Sod Poodles Win Texas League Championship
Over the past week, stretching into the weekend the Amarillo Sod Poodles took on the Tulsa Drillers in a 5 game series, all for the right to be called Texas League Champion.
The Sod Poodles hosted the first two games of the Championship series, splitting the games 1-1 before heading to Tulsa to finish the final three games of the series. After splitting the next two games it would all come down to a decisive game 5 between the two teams.
After a huge 9th inning the Sod Poodles were able to come away with the victory 8 to 3 capturing their first Texas League Championship in their inaugural season.
The Drillers held a 3-1 lead going into the 9th inning. That's when Sod Poodles outfielder Taylor Trammell (who was acquired from the Reds at the Trade Deadline) hit this go ahead grand slam in the 9th inning off of Nolan Long to give the Sod Poodles the lead.
Long would be replaced on the bump and former Texas Tech Red Raider Ryan Moseley would then come in and finish out the inning, giving up 2 more runs however.
Travis Radke would come in for the Sod Poodles to finish the game, giving them the Texas League Championship. It's the Sod Poodles first Texas League title but it also served as a bit of revenge for some of the players who lost to the Drillers in last year's Championship Series as the San Antonio Missions.
