
City Pools To Remain Closed This Summer, Future Bond For Aquatic Center Floated Again
City of Lubbock Pools have been closed for a couple of years now and the Summer of 2026 is no different. No pools will be opened this year by the City. There are several reasons for this, but the main issue is that the City just can't afford to fix the repairs.
Costs of Repairs Too Much For Lubbock
According to KAMC, Clapp Pool was the last pool to close after the 2023 season. Due to maintenance and repair issues, it's been closed since. Lacey Rose, City of Lubbock's Director of Communications and Public Engagement told KAMC:
“It was past the point of no return for feasible repairs,”
While the pools in Lubbock remain closed for this Summer, a possible solution is being talked about. According to KAMC, Lubbock City Councilwoman Christy Martinez Garcia has suggested building a city aquatic center as part of a "Quality of Life" bond.

The bond would also include more splash pads.
Lubbock Aquatic Center In the Future?
While the idea is just being discussed right not, it's not a new idea. In fact, two years ago during the Mayor debate, the idea of building an aquatic center was brought up at several debates. The idea of a bond election to pay for it was floated at the time as well.
