A Lubbock Man Accused of Squatting Hits an Officer with a Vehicle
A Lubbock Police officer was injured after being hit by a vehicle. The Lubbock Police Department was dispatched on Tuesday, November 29th, to the 2300 block of 51st street at 9:10 p.m. after reports of a squatter.
KAMC news reported that at the scene police discovered a vehicle attempting to reverse from a parking spot and leave the area. Officer John Murray with the Lubbock Police Department attempted to detain the driver of the vehicle, 44-year-old Matthew Plank, while he changed gear shifts from 'reverse' into 'drive'. Plank then proceeded to drive that vehicle into officer Murray at a high rate of speed resulting in minor injuries.
Plank did successfully flee the scene but was later arrested at the corner of 51st Street and Avenue X. Police did search the vehicle after Plank was in custody and found marijuana in the car along with a bottle of medicine containing syrup inside. Officer Murray was transported to University Medical Center for his minor injuries.
As per the publishing of this article, Plank is currently being held in the Lubbock County Detention Center on charges of Aggravated Assault of a Peace Officer. There is no bond listed for Plank due to an existing list of warrants for his arrest before this incident.
