The West Virginia Mountaineers overcame a 14-point fourth quarter deficit to defeat the Texas Tech Red Raiders 37-34 Saturday afternoon at Jones AT&T Stadium.

Texas Tech had a lead over West Virginia for over 40 minutes of the game, but were unable to hold in the fourth quarter.

The Red Raiders final score in the game came at the 7:32 mark of the fourth quarter. Justin Stockton's 69 yard rushing touchdown gave Tech a 34-20 lead.

West Virginia cut the deficit down to seven with a 26-yard touchdown pass from Clint Trickett to Kevin White with 5:55 to play.

After forcing a three-and-out from Texas Tech, the Mountaineers got the ball back at their own 22 yard line.  Three completed passes and two Texas Tech penalties moved the Mountaineers inside the red zone to the Texas Tech 6 yard line.

With 1st and Goal at the 6, an Andrew Buie run moved the ball to the 3. On 2nd and Goal, Rushel Shell rushed through the right side to the 1 yard line. Another Shell run on third down was stuffed at the 1 by Micah Awe.

After a replay review and a West Virginia timeout, the Mountaineers lined up to go for it on 4th and Goal at the 1 yard line. The Mountaineers called Shell’s number again and he delivered, plunging into the end zone on 4th and Goal.  With the extra point, West Virginia tied the game at 34 with 2:02 left in the game.

On the ensuing possession, West Virginia's defense stopped the Red Raiders again, forcing a punt into the end zone with 52 seconds left in the game.

After an incomplete pass, two running plays of nine and three yards gave West Virginia a 1st and 10 from the 32 yard line. Trickett then hooked up with Jordan Thompson on two consecutive 11 yard pass plays to move the ball to the Texas Tech 46 yard line.

With 14 seconds left in the game, West Virginia used a running play to gain eight additional yards. This ended up setting up the game-winning field goal from the 38 with three second left. After a Texas Tech timeout, Josh Lambert converted a 55-yard field goal into the north end zone as time expired.  The 55 yarder was Lambert's career high.

With the loss, Texas Tech's record dropped to (2-4, 0-3). Next Saturday, Texas Tech hosts Kansas at 2:30p at Jones AT&T Stadium.
