An area hospital center will offer a self-defense class tailored specifically for women.

The University Medical Center Activities Center will offer the women’s self-defense class, a five-week program aimed to emphasize mental awareness, preparedness, basic defenses, and common sense solutions to avoid dangerous situations.

The class will be taught by Kristi Wuensche, a former Lubbock police officer and Larry Sava, a martial arts enthusiast.

The classes will run from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. beginning on July 19th, and will continue through August 16th at the center, located at 5217 82nd Street.

The cost is $35 for UMC Activity Center members and $45 for non-members or first-time participants.
