Wednesday on Lubbock's First News, Eddie Owens, Director of Communications for United Supermarkets, talked about the company assuming responsibility over Albertsons locations and briefly about the gas and beef promotions.

Owens recalled United Supermarkets' partnership with Albertsons was established in September of 2013, in which United became a "whole separate division of Albertsons." He said , last week, United; announced internally that the company would be assuming responsibility for the eight Albertsons stores in West Texas. Owens explained that this was a logical action because of distances from stores to Albertsons distribution centers; so United can shorten the distances for product distribution.

He said all the stores currently "perform extremely well" and that all current employees will be retained. No staffing changes will be made to the store, except to expand the teams if possible. Owens said, "We've always said that they can learn things from us and I think this is indicative of that." The stores will be marketed under the Albertsons banner to distinguish them from other United stores. Owens observed the companies are excited to work together to combine leadership as "one big family."

United stores run an annual gas promotion that offers customers discounted gas prices when they spend certain amounts in stores. Customers can show their receipts to a gas attendant to receive their discount. In addition, customers can enter to win lots of beef by entering the registration number found on genuine Texas beef products purchased at www.gtbfreezer.com,exclusively at United stores.
