TxDOT’s Lubbock District is ready for another round of winter weather.

According to a press release, TxDOT crews are ready to respond to a winter storm expected to impact the South Plains early Thursday morning and into the weekend.

Crews have prepared trucks and equipment that apply anti-icing and deicing materials to bridges, overpasses, and areas such as canyon upgrades, downgrades, curves, and major intersections.

During this wintry weather, motorists are advised to stay home if possible, but some tips can be observed to make travel safer.

During icy conditions, motorists are urged to reduce speed, watch carefully for snow removal equipment, and use extra caution on bridges, ramps, overpasses, and shaded areas.

TxDOT recommends that drivers stay at least 200 feet behind a snow plow.

If you start to slide, ease off the gas pedal or brakes, and steer into the direction of the skid until you have regained traction. Applying the brakes in a sharp manner can cause the vehicle to become more unmanageable.
