Texas Tech’s Political Science department will sponsor a panel discussion this week in honor of Constitution Day.

Constitution Day is observed on September 17th, which is the day that the U.S. Constitutional Convention signed the Constitution in 1787.

To celebrate Constitution Day, the Tech Department of Political Science is sponsoring a panel of experts on “Government Surveillance, the War on Terror, and the Constitution” on Tuesday, September 17th.

The panel will take place at noon in the Senate Room of the Student Union Building on the Texas Tech campus.

Those featured on the panel are Texas Tech political science professors Gregg Murray, Steve Meserve, and Mark McKenzie, and graduate student Tyson Meredith.

The panelists will discuss the Constitutional implications of National Security Agency programs, government regulation of the internet, causes and sources of terrorism, and public opinion on U.S. terrorism policies and civil liberties.

The panel is expected to conclude the discussion around 1:30 p.m. Tuesday.

The event is free to attend and open to the public.
