Sunday evening, Texas Tech Athletics officially accepted an invitation to play in the National University Holiday Bowl in San Diego. The Red Raiders opponent will be #16 Arizona State, who lost to #7 Sanford in the PAC-12 Championship Game on Saturday.

"Texas Tech is honored to accept an invitation to the National University Holiday Bowl," Kirby Hocutt, Director of Athletics said. "The tradition surrounding the Holiday Bowl makes it one of the most anticipated games of the postseason. Texas Tech's Holiday Bowl win in 2004 is a source of great pride for our fans and we look forward to a return to San Diego."

Texas Tech beat California in the 2004 Holiday Bowl 45-31. The Red Raiders that season were led by quarterback Sonny Cumbie, who is now co-offensive coordinator on Kliff Kingsbury's coaching staff.

The National University Holiday Bowl will be played December 30 at 9:15p CT at Qualcomm Stadium.  The game will be televised nationally on ESPN.
