Red Raiders manager, Tim Tadlock, watched two of his highly touted recruits get selected in the first 15 picks of yesterday’s MLB draft.

The Canadian left-handed slugging first basemen Josh Naylor committed to Texas Tech, but was chosen 12th overall by the Miami Marlins. Just three spots later, Richland, TX native and OF Trenton Clark went to the Brewers at no. 15.

It’s not unheard of for players drafted out of high school to opt for college in hopes of boosting their stock down the road. However, that’s a route hardly ever chosen by someone taken in the first round, let alone in the first 15 picks.

Assuming Naylor and Clark both sign, Texas Tech’s incoming recruiting class took a bit of a hit. However, the glass half full approach says with Texas Tech being the only school in the country to lose two recruits in the top 15 of the MLB Draft, the future appears really bright for Red Raider baseball.
