On the Thursday edition of The Chad Hasty Show, Harvey Hilderbran, candidate for Texas State Comptroller, talked with Chad Hasty about his new plan to help protect Texas taxpayers.

Today, Hilderbran unveiled his Texas taxpayers' "Bill of Rights," an amendment to the Texas constitution that includes various protections for taxpayers in the state. Some of the points Hilderbran hits on in his amendment include fair audit processes and a more simplified refund process. He added that one of the biggest points on the amendment is interest rate parity, insuring that taxpayers would receive the same interest rate on both their refunds and their taxes.

Hilderbran said that he is confident that his bill of rights can be added to the Texas constitution. He explained that the amendment has already gained favorable support from both legislators and the public, and that if elected, he will work tirelessly to implement his taxpayers' bill of rights as soon as possible.

"I predict [the amendment] will pass the Legislature. We will also be able to immediately, once we take office, we will be able to begin the adoption of rules and implement it in the areas we can change that we already have the authority to deal with by statue and by general rule making authority. We'll get to work on that, right at the very beginning. Over the course of the Legislative session, we'll get that adopted. I think the Legislature will embrace it, and I think the public will embrace it by voting for it to be added to our state's constitution.
