Texas Rangers have arrested one Anton man for murder after receiving a call for assistance from the Hockley County Sheriff’s Office.

Early Saturday morning, a fight broke out in the 400 block of Maurer Street in Anton, Texas, between 25-year-old Cristoval Resendez and 27-year-old Kevin Alcerro-Funez. According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, Resendez left briefly, returned with a knife and stabbed Alcerro-Funez before fleeing again.

Alcerro-Funez’s family called 911 and then drove him to meet the ambulance due to the severity of his wounds. Aerocare services were contacted and met the ambulance on U.S. Highway 84, but Alcerro-Funez was pronounced deceased at the landing zone.

According to KAMC News, Anton’s lone police officer did not receive notification of the incident until the morning after.

Texas Rangers later arrested Resendez and he is being held in the Hockley County Jail on a slew of charges including murder. His bond is set at $286,000.
