So, where are the fish biting and how do area lakes look right now? There is a handy way to find out.

Texas has a ton of places to fish, and for many it's a decision that comes down to travel time and where the good spots are to fish. Those who have been fishing their entire lives have their own favorite spots and their own tips and tricks, but did you know that the Texas Parks and Wildlife also provides a little insight into where the fish are biting?

The Texas Parks and Wildlife website updates each week their fishing report site. Fishing reports are normally updated by Thursday morning and the information is collected by a third party who spoke with fishing guides, marinas, and bait shops.

Not only can you get updates on freshwater locations, but also saltwater as well.

Here are some reports from lakes around Texas from the August 3rd Fishing Report:

Alan Henry FAIR. Water clear; 85 degrees; 3.36 feet below pool. Crappie are fair in 15-25 feet of water in the mornings and evenings. Catfish are fair on prepared baits 10-20 feet of water. Report by The Bait Shop, Post, Texas.

Brownwood GOOD. Water slightly stained; 87-89 degrees; 6.11 feet below pool. Black bass to 5.54 pounds are good on shaky heads, glide baits, crankbaits and soft plastic worms in 5-18 feet of water early and late in the day. Crappie are slow in brush piles on jigs and on minnows around the docks in 8-12 feet of water. White bass are fair to 1.00 pound in the lights or schooling around the dam mid morning on jigs and minnows. Catfish are fair to 6 pounds on jug lines and trotlines using perch and cut bait.

Joe Pool FAIR. Water clear; 90 degrees; 0.39 feet below pool. Fishing can be tough from the bank while fish are deeper due to the high water temperatures. Target bass in channel and deep water with crankbaits, shaky heads with a 10 inch worm. White bass can be found schooling in the morning chasing bait. Catfish on deeper creek channels. Report by Gilbert Miller, GTB Outdoors.

Meredith GOOD. Water stained; 83 degrees; 43.38 feet below pool. As the dog days of summer are here, try the night bite plus it is a great way to beat the heat! Bass are good on minnows and artificials. Catfish are good on crawlers, minnows, chicken liver and frozen shad. Crappie are fair on artificial baits and minnows. White bass are excellent on minnows, or jigheads with a curly tailed grub. Trout are slow on powerbaits, minnows, worms, small spinners and flies. Walleye are good to excellent using minnows, grubs, crankbaits and other artificial baits. Overall fishing is good on Lake Meredith, the docks are getting slammed! Reports that the night bite is awesome. Please be safe out there, watch weather reports. Life vests save lives. Report by Kenneth Wysong, SharKens Honey Hole.
