First Book in the Lonesome Dove Series: “Dead Man’s Walk” by Larry McMurtry

Lonesome Dove was McMurtry's first book written in the series, but is actually the third book in the storyline. The first book in the chronological storyline is Dead Man's Walk, which takes place roughly in the 1840s, when Augustus "Gus" McRae and Woodrow Call, who are the central characters in the books, are young men in their early days as Texas Rangers. This book follows the pair's adventures in many locations in the Southwest, including deserts of southwest Texas and New Mexico.

Holiday Season Gifts for Readers (or Yourself)

Among Larry McMurtry's many novels, some of which I enjoyed greatly and have read more than once, some I was very disappointed in (and one was so bad that I refused to finish), he wrote four outstanding books known as The Lonesome Dove Series. Many people are familiar with the one titled, "Lonesome Dove", and most people have seen the epic television mini-series with the same title starring Robert Duvall and Tommy Lee Jones.

Chad Hasty Impersonates Alex Jones, Has Fun With a 9/11 Truther

Chad Hasty has a God-given gift: the gift of impersonation. Whether it's Bill Clinton, Barack Obama, Rush Limbaugh or other talk show hosts, Chad can impersonate them.

On the Wednesday edition of The Chad Hasty Show, Jerry, an occasional caller, took the baton on a discussion about waterboarding and torture and turned it into a rehash of conspiracy theories about the September 11 terrorist attacks. He focused on 7 World Trade Center, which was destroyed in the attacks.

After about two minutes of Jerry trying to make a point, Chad ceded his mic to the fake Alex Jones.

To Spring Forward, Fall Back or Neither?

I'd just love to see Texas take a position one way or the other (as have Arizona and Hawaii), and stop with the time-changing already.

Watching the International Space Station (ISS)

The ISS orbits at an altitude of about 200 - 270 miles above the earth, at a speed of over 17,000 mph. The (relatively) low altitude orbit requires sighting opportunities of the Station to be fairly close to sunset or sunrise time to be visible, though the sky can still be completely dark. It's common to see the ISS literally disappear as you watch it. This occurs when it travels into the shadow of the earth.
