The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department rescheduled the meeting in Morton, which is being held to allow discussion on the draft range-wide conservation plan for the lesser prairie chicken.
“It’s important to show people what life would have been like so many years ago, and how people would have survived on the frontier,” said Dawn Capps, park ranger and peace officer at Abilene State Park.
This data may well be important, since the U.S. Fish and Wildlife service is considering whether to list the lesser prairie-chicken under the federal Endangered Species Act.
