A historic vessel in Texas just east of Houston will reopen soon following repairs.

The Battleship Texas closed for a week to give a salvage company time to repair a leak that was developed on June 9th.

The ship has not taken on any new water in more than 48 hours, following the repair and pumping of water from the ship.

“We closed the ship last week so that divers could locate and repair the leak,” said Andy Smith, Battleship Texas State Historical Site superintendent. “That has been done and we plan on reopening the Texas in time for weekend visitors to enjoy exploring this century-old vessel.

Areas below the Second Deck are still closed, as efforts are still ongoing to clean the remaining oil disturbed by the flooding.

Texas Parks and Wildlife Department has been working toward the permanent dry-berthing of the ship. More information is available at www.dryberthTEXAS.com.
