If Lubbock had smart meters during the June 5 wind storm, it would have only taken a fraction of the time to get the power back on. That's the word coming from staffers at Lubbock Power and Light. Right now LP&L doesn't know there is a power outage until a customer calls. With smart meters, they claim they would know immediately. Yesterday, the Electric Utility Board voted to start the process on installing smart meters in Lubbock.

There has been some controversy about smart meters. Some worry that it could lead to government spying. Some also have health concerns. What do you think about smart meters?
