On Monday's edition of Lubbock's First News, Rhonda Menefee, volunteer with the Susan G. Komen Foundation talked with Tom Collins and Laura Mac about the upcoming Race for the Cure.

The 2013 Komen Race for the Cure will take place Saturday, October 5th at the Lubbock Memorial Civic Center. Registration for the race is now open at Komen's website. Participants who register before September 27th will have their T-shirts and race numbers mailed to them, but registration will remain open until the day of the race.

Menefee said that thousands of people show up to the race every year, and that both teams and individuals can register. She added that teams are also encouraged to raise donations for Komen, and prizes will be awarded to the groups that raise the most money.

Tom Collins and Laura Mac will also be participating in the race this year, and are taking suggestions for a team name. The winning suggestion will receive $50 to Catalina's Mexican Restaurant, but entries must be sent in today, August 18th, to be eligible. To submit a team name, E-mail them at collinsandmac@gmail.com.
