Wednesday, July 1,  around 2:50 a.m. Lubbock Police responded to a report of shots fired in the 3000 block of Duke Street.

While on the scene, police were notified that a gunshot victim had been checked in to UMC in possible connection with that particular call of shots fired. That suspicion was later confirmed when officers spoke with the victim.

The victim told police that he and his girlfriend were driving eastbound on Duke Street when they noticed two men, one of which was armed with a rifle, standing outside a residence. According to the victim, the armed suspect then proceeded to open fire on the two as they drove by.

The driver suffered a wound to the neck but drove himself to UMC with a non-life threatening injury. The female passenger was uninjured.

The two suspects are still at large, and detectives are continuing to investigate.

Anyone with any information that could assist police in making an arrest in this case are urged to call crime line at 741-1000.
