O.J. Simpson.  Just the mention of his name elicits a direct and immediate response.  O.J., or as he was known during his playing days with the Buffalo Bills, 'The Juice', has faded away from the public limelight over the past few years after he was convicted of theft and kidnapping charges in 2008 in Clark County, Nevada.  However, O.J. is back in the news again.

The UK Daily Mail, FOX News and other outlets are reporting that O.J. has confessed (finally?? depending on your point of view) to Oprah that he killed his ex-wife and friend on that fateful night in Brentwood, California June 12, 1994.

The UK Daily Mail reports the confession was given to an unlikely person:

Simpson has already told one of her producers in an interview from jail that he knifed ex-wife Nicole in self-defence - a confession he will now repeat to the talk show queen during a spectacular televised sit down interview.

Oprah Winfrey ended her talk show "Oprah" earlier this year, and will conduct the interview with Simpson on her cable channel, called OWN.

For O.J. to do this now, after so many previous opportunities to confess, he must have either cracked under the psychological weight of guilt while in prison, or he must feel that he is dying and the end is near. Also, I can't imagine what his children and family members feel about this news, just over 17 years after the crime was committed.

Since O.J. was found 'not-guilty' in his criminal trial, he cannot be retried after his confession is confirmed.  A 1995 civil suit against him took every sizable asset he had to his name and forced him into an awkward, public, isolation, while he was "searching for the real killers".

The only saving grace in this news is that the truth about Orenthal James Simpson is now known and the speculation can end.
