Here's a suggestion for parents: just because it's election season doesn't mean you should treat your daughter's prom queen campaign like a presidential campaign.

In Kileen, Texas, Tammy Day put up a huge, rotating billboard just outside of Harker Heights High School to support her daughter Brandy's run for prom queen. Much to Tammy's surprise, her daughter did not win the crown, and was instead ridiculed by the other students for the over-the-top advertisement.

Despite the public backlash , Tammy Day said she doesn’t regret having gone all out for her daughter. She said she wanted to give her daughter, who was diagnosed with mild cerebral palsy from the waist down at age 3, a bright, shining moment after a life of pain.

“They may consider it overboard, but I don’t look at it like that,” she said. “I look at it like it’s a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to make memories …This is her last prom. She’s never going to be in high school again and I wanted her to have the best moment possible during her last school year.”

Personally, I don't blame the kids for giving this girl a hard time over the billboard. It's completely ridiculous what this mother did. It's a prom, not a presidency. I'm sure that money the mother wasted on that billboard could have been used for much better things. Say, for example, helping fund her daughter's approaching college education?

However, Tammy was right about one thing: Brandy's never going to be in high school again. She's moving on to college and much bigger and better things than a high school prom. Hopefully, one of those "better things" will involve getting away from this overzealous helicopter mom.
