The first-ever Mayor’s Marathon takes place this morning (Sunday, April 22) in Lubbock. The marathon will have a unique route, using the 26-mile diameter of Loop 289 for the 5k, half-marathon and full-marathon races.  There will be lane closures and detours in place for Loop 289 from 5am until 2pm.  The marathon itself starts at 7:30am and all runners will have to finish by 1:30pm.

Motorists on the lanes of Loop 289 that remain open will see the runners this morning.

Parking and the main headquarters for the marathon is the Berl Huffman Athletic Complex located on North Loop 289 and the Clovis Highway.

Major detours for Loop 289 traffic will be on the North Loop between I-27 to the Clovis Highway (US 84). Also on the southeast Loop from Southeast Drive to 19th Street.
