Lubbock Police have released the name of the man charged with murdering a woman Friday morning.

Police arrested 41-year-old Steve Ballesteros, after he reportedly drove past the apartments at 45th Street and Elgin Avenue where 32-year-old Priscilla Maria Perez had been found murdered, and taunted police, and “indicating to officers he was involved in the case” before attempting to escape, according to Lubbock Police.

Police chased Ballesteros until he wrecked his car at 50th Street and Canton Avenue, where officers took him into custody.

Perez was found dead in her apartment around 9 a.m. by a maintenance worker for the complex, who said that her children asked him for help.

Ballesteros has been charged with murder, and is currently being held in the Lubbock Police Department holding facility.

No word yet on the relationship between Perez and Ballesteros.
