Lieutenant Ray Mendoza, the public information officer for the Lubbock Police Department, joined Lubbock's First News Monday (June 29) to discuss the demotion of Police Chief Roger Ellis.

Lubbock Police Chief Roger Ellis was demoted Friday (June 26) by City Manager James Loomis. Lt. Mendoza could not provide any additional information on the demotion, such as the underlying cause.

"Yes, the demotion was completely a surprise to a lot of us and so I really don't have any other information," said Mendoza. "I know what you know and what has been reported as well."

Mendoza also briefly discussed the pedestrian that was struck late Saturday evening at the intersection of 76th and Quaker, and a standoff that occurred early Monday morning.
