Another Lubbockite has chosen to trade the dusty plains for a life at sea.

Did you know there are only 10 operational aircraft carriers in the U.S. Navy today? It's true, and our own Christian Ward serves on one of the world's largest warships the USS Dwight D. Eisenhower. (That's a brass Ike keeping an eye on Christian in the photo above.)

Christian works in logistics, keeping track of everything the crew needs. What a crew, too! There are about 3,200 people on the ship. The Ike is one of the carriers just like you see in the movies that slingshots planes into the sky, then hooks 'em with a steel cable when they come back in.

Let's all salute Christian Ward for his service and wish him a safe term of duty.
