A Lubbock missing person case has taken a strange turn. The family of 19-year-old Texas Tech student Gordon Fang-Wong is heading to California, where they believe he could be involved with a cult.

The Texas Tech student was reported missing Jan. 20 by Lubbock police. One day later, the department called off the search, saying they had received evidence that Fang-Wong boarded a bus and left the city of his own accord.

After receiving two photos of Fang-Wong in an email and a cryptic phone call, Hon Wong, Gordon’s father, told KAMC that the family is flying out to an undisclosed location in California in an attempt to bring the teenager home.

Wong added that he’s bringing ransom money and weapons in the effort to secure his son.
