Perry Booked

It was a Governor ready for a fight on Tuesday when Governor Rick Perry arrived at the Travis County Courthouse to be booked. According to the Dallas Morning News, Perry and his legal team are ready.

A defiant Rick Perry showed up for his booking and mugshot Tuesday after being charged with abuse of powers charges and pledged “to fight this injustice with every fiber of my being.”

“We will prevail,” he said at the Travis County Courthouse where supporters gathered and chanted “Perry! Perry! Perry!”

Perry turned himself shortly after 5 p.m. Tuesday to be fingerprinted and have his booking photo taken.

“I’m here today because I believe in the rule of law. I’m here today because I did the right thing,” he said, saying he entered the courthouse “with my head held high knowing the actions I took were not only lawful and legal, but right.”

The Republican governor was indicted Friday on two felony counts of coercion and official oppression for promising to veto $7.5 million for the state public integrity unit run by the Travis County district attorney’s office.

The governor threatened the veto if District Attorney Rosemary Lehmberg stayed in office after a drunken driving conviction.

Lehmberg wouldn’t resign, and Perry carried out the veto. A liberal group filed an ethics complaint and a Republican state district judge appointed a special prosecutor to direct the grand jury inquiry. The special prosecutor, Mike McCrum, is a San Antonio lawyer who served as a federal prosecutor in the administration of President George H.W. Bush.

Supporters and opponents gathered at the courthouse, waving placards. “Texans Stand with Rick Perry,” said one. Another said “Gee I Miss Ann Richards,” the last Democrat to serve as governor of Texas, 20 years ago.

ORIGINAL ITEM: Gov. Rick Perry plans to appear at the Travis County Courthouse this afternoon for his booking on felony charges of coercion and abuse of power — and, of course, to have his mugshot taken. He’s expected to make a statement, so check back here for updates.

Supporters are also planning a rally, according to this Facebook page.

Perry stands accused of trying to force the Travis County district attorney from office after her drunken driving arrest. For background, read Christy Hoppe’s and Wayne Slater’s story from today on Perry’s blooming legal and public relations strategy, which is partly to target the DA’s behavior the night of her arrest. A video released today by the governor’s political committee reinforces that plan.

ISIS Kills An American

The Islamic militant terror group known as ISIS has apparently beheaded an American journalist in order to send a message to the United States. According to the Daily Mail, James Foley was the journalist who was murdered.

American freelance photo-journalist James Wright Foley, 40, has been beheaded by ISIS in a video posted online and titled as ‘A Message to America’.

Foley, has been missing since November, 2012, after being taken hostage while reporting from Taftanaz, in northern Syria, for the agency, GlobalPost.

ISIS posted the extremely graphic video to social media as proof of their barbaric actions late on Tuesday afternoon.

White House National Security Council spokeswoman Caitlin Hayden says the administration has seen the video.

She says that if it’s deemed genuine by the intelligence community, the US would be ‘appalled by the brutal murder of an innocent American journalist.’

His family issued a statement through their Free James Foley organization, which has been working to free the journalist.

'We know that many of you are looking for confirmation or answers. Please be patient until we all have more information, and keep the Foleys in your thoughts and prayers.'

As the disturbing video infolds, Foley, dressed in orange addresses the camera before he dies and labels the US government his real killers as a man in black robes armed with a gun stands over him.

It appears the journalist is being coerced into blaming the United States by his brutal captors.

The journalist who has been missing for almost two years then leaves a haunting message for his brother, John, who is thought to be in the US Air Force.

‘I died that day, John, when your colleagues dropped that bomb on these people. They signed my death certificate’

Further proof that we can't ignore or wish away radical Islam. It must be defeated and defeated over there before it plays out in our streets.
