Officials say the driver of a bus which crashed and killed one Abilene Christian University Student last Friday was not speeding at the time of the crash. A Texas Department of Public Safety spokesperson announced in an email Tuesday that 34-year-old Michael Adam Nicodemus was actually driving 5 miles below the speed limit when the bus hit a culvert and rolled, killing 19 year old student Anabel Reid.

Investigators are now working to determine if driver fatigue could have contributed to the crash. 12 of the occupants were flung from the university-owned bus during the crash, which was completely totaled after the accident. Nicodemus was uninjured and the only one wearing a seatbelt, although each bus seat was equipped with one.
