Officers with Lubbock Police's Code Administration Department will be conducting a Neighborhood Deployment on Wednesday, August 10th.
Officers will be in the South Overton Neighborhood between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. The neighborhood, right next to Lubbock High School, is bordered by Broadway Street to the north, Avenue Q to the east, 19th Street to the south and University Avenue to the west.
While there, officers will be looking for violations relating to Junked Vehicles, Nuisance Weeds and Rubbish, Substandard Housing and Zoning. A junked vehicle is a vehicle with an expired or removed inspection sticker or registration, one that is wrecked, dismantled, inoperative or abandoned, or one that hasn't moved for over 30 days. These vehicles are cited as a health and safety concern as they can provide a habitat for vermin or insects and can possibly leak fluids that may be toxic to the environment.
Weeds and vegetation are considered in violation if they are over 8 inches tall and are uncultivated anywhere on or adjacent to a piece of property. Items such as furniture, appliances, tree limbs, building materials and other bulky items placed in an alley or on property is also a violation of the ordinance.
Anyone wishing to dispose of bulky items can do so at a roll off container provided in the First Baptist Church parking lot. The parking lot is located in the 2100 block of 13th Street, and a field office will also be set up for residents to obtain information regarding Code Enforcement activities.
Inspectors will be talking to the public to provide info in regards to these types of violations, citing violations, and possibly abating violations during the exercise.
