"A large portion of the country or the continent could be dry for five to ten years or more," Vikram Baliga told Tom and Laura this week.

Baliga, the AgriLife Extension agent for horticulture in Lubbock County, referenced an article he read concerning a megadrought.

According to NASA, "droughts in the U.S. Southwest and Central Plains during the last half of this century could be drier and longer than drought conditions seen in those regions in the last 1,000 years."

If you're not pre-emerging your lawn, there is no need to be running sprinkler systems, said Baliga. He added that during a wet year, people should save as much water as they can.
