Tuesday on Lubbock's First News, Carl Tepper, chairman of the Lubbock County Republican Party, gave an update on those that filed last minute after the deadline was extended.

As a result of the process of approving the withdrawal of Jean Anne Stratton (read more on that here), the deadline to file to run for Justice of the Peace for precinct 4 was extended. The extension was forced by the resignation of Stratton on the initial filing deadline. Carl said four more individuals filed since the deadline was extended, bringing the total to five candidates. Stratton's daughter, Margaret Anne Brown, filed before the extension. The four who filed during the extended period are Deborah Burton, Anne Marie Carruth, Gary Vaughn, and Brenda Willis. Carl briefly described the difference in the campaign process that he speaks to potential candidates about: "This is not like a presidential election. You are going to be walking blocks."
