Monday on Lubbock's First News, Carl Tepper, chairman of the Lubbock County Republican Party, discussed the withdrawal of Jean Anne Stratton from the Justice of the Peace office.

Tepper described the situation in which Stratton filed for a withdrawal from the Pricinct 4 Justice of the Peace seat, while her daughter, Margaret Anne Brown, filed an application for the position.

After seeing that the form had not been notarized, Tepper called around to find out if it was a necessary part of the withdrawal process. Tepper said, "I'm trying to follow the ordinances as they are written. That's the spirit of the elections code and of the Lubbock County Republic Party. We do not interpret." The issue was finally resolved and Stratton's form accepted. However, Tepper said that upon hearing of its acceptance Stratton stated her desire to retract the withdrawal.
