Thursday night, September 16th, two separate stabbing and shooting incidents occurred in South Lubbock.

The shooting occurred just before 10 p.m. when Lubbock Police officers heard gunshots outside the Long John Silver’s location on 50th Street. On arrival, one person was found with a gunshot wound to the leg. The unnamed victim was taken to a local hospital with moderate injuries.

Meanwhile, the stabbing happened just an hour before that near Clifford H. Andrews Park. Officers responded just after 9 p.m. in the area of 74th Street and Memphis Avenue. One individual was found at the scene with moderate injuries due to the stabbing. This victim was taken to the hospital as well.

As of the publication of this article, authorities have not confirmed any connection between the two incidents and no arrests have been made.

Both of these cases have ongoing investigations.


This comes days after Lubbock Police reported annual homicides in the city continuing to reach record numbers compared to previous years. So far in 2021, a total of 24 homicides have been reported, with 6 being vehicular. Authorities believe the causes to be mainly domestic.

Last year, a total of 41 homicides were recorded, which was a 105 percent spike from 2019, which had 20 reported homicides. This year's numbers are already above average for the city.
