Traffic Stop Leads to Pursuit with Lubbock County Sheriff’s Deputies
In the early morning hours of Friday, March 5th, a traffic stop in Lubbock County led to a pursuit and eventual crash.
It's reported that Lubbock County Sheriff's Deputies attempted to make a traffic stop at around 3 a.m. in the morning near 50th Street and I-27. The reasoning behind the traffic stop wasn't given in the release from the Lubbock County Sheriff's Office. The suspect's vehicle, a black Chevy Pickup, began to evade deputies, starting the chase.
It wasn't reported exactly how long the pursuit lasted, but it was noted that it ended at the intersection of MLK Boulevard and East Cornell Street when the suspect crashed into another vehicle.
EMS arrived on the scene, and after checking with everyone involved, neither the suspect nor anyone else involved in the crash were determined to be injured. Lubbock Police arrived on the scene shortly after to work the crash.
46-year-old Christopher Lee Rodriguez (pictured above) was taken into custody without incident after the crash. KAMC News noted that in the statement from LCSO, the suspect's last name was spelt as "Rodriguez," but Lubbock County Jail records showed his name was spelt "Rodriquez."
Rodriguez remains in the Lubbock County Detention Center on charges of Evading in a Motor Vehicle and Unlawful Carrying of a Weapon. As of the writing of this article, the case was still under investigation.
