Lubbock's Open Door is hosting the 2nd Annual Run to End Homelessness on Saturday, April 23rd.

The Run to End Homelessness is intended to raise awareness and funds for those experiencing poverty, homelessness and sex trafficking.

For 2022, the run will be held at Mae Simmons Park, located at 2004 Oak Avenue. The event will kick off at 9:30 a.m.

Participants are invited to run, walk, ride or roll their way around the park, and afterwards, they can enjoy a post-event meal, live music and prizes. Those who aren't able to make it in-person can attend the event virtually, as well.

Tickets are available at For more information, call 806-687-6876.

Open Door was founded in 1997 when members of Broadway Church of Christ saw a need for people in homelessness to develop community and connect with resources. Originally, Open Door was housed in a donated building in North Overton. In 2004, they moved to their current located on 13th Street.

Open Door became an independent nonprofit organization in 2011, and in 2017, they changed their name from Carpenter's Church to Open Door.

Open Door is always accepting donations of hygiene products and food. See their website for more information.
