The Lubbock Police Department will be honoring fallen officers with a candlelight memorial on Friday, May 6th.

Even members of the community without direct ties to law enforcement are invited to attend to celebrate National Police Week.

LPD Public Information Officer Allison Matherly said:

I think it’s just a really great way to remind our officers that the community is behind them and then also reminding the families of those fallen that the community is still with them, as well.

Corporal Jennifer Pierce of LPD said:

We might not have a direct interaction with an officer on a regular basis or even a not-so-regular basis, but the reality is that our officers are serving behind the scenes every day.

KAMC News reports that the candlelight memorial will be a come-and-go event that will last from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. The event will take place at the Lubbock Regional Public Safety Memorial, located at 6601 Quaker Avenue.
