Armed Texas Woman Killed In Multi-City Car Chase
A woman who led police on a multi-city car chase before threatening cops at gunpoint was shot and killed in Texas. She was also found to have an outstanding warrant leading up to the events that ended her life.
A Confirmed Felony Warrant
Just after midnight on Thursday, July 24, Lewisville police officers conducted a routine traffic stop on State Highway 121 after the license plate revealed the driver may have an outstanding felony warrant.
After exiting the cruiser and identifying the woman behind the wheel, they were able to confirm that she indeed had a felony warrant for her arrest. Before officers were able to detain the woman, she sped off in her vehicle.
A Police Chase Begins
Lewisville Police Department (LPD), in a recent press release, stated that the police chased the woman, who was the only one in the car, across multiple jurisdiction and several city lines. She also crashed into an LPD patrol vehicle before fleeing once again in her damaged car.
Finally, the chase ended in a parking lot southbound off of I-35E in Lewisville. This was where the woman exited her vehicle, which was too damaged to continue running, and pulled out a handgun.
Officers repeatedly commanded her to drop the weapon and comply with their arrest attempts. After she failed to place the firearm on the ground, Lewisville police officers opened fire.
What Happened After the Fatal Police Chase?
The woman was rushed to a local hospital after life-saving measures were taken by emergency medical services on the scene. Despite this, she was pronounced dead shortly after 1 a.m.
The identity of the woman will be released by the Tarrant County Medical Examiner's Office, according to the LPD release.
There were no other injuries reported to either civilians or police personnel. Per the Lewisville Police Department policy, the four officers involved in the incident will be placed on administrative leave as an investigation continues to unfold.
