Texas Tech football's two-game winning streak in Austin ended Friday afternoon as the Texas Longhorns won 49-24 over the Red Raiders.

Matt Wells ended his first season at Texas Tech with a 4-8 record, while the Longhorns finished the 2019 regular season with a 7-5 record.

Texas Tech opened the scoring in the first quarter with a 14-0 lead. Jett Duffey threw a 13-yard touchdown pass to KeSean Carter, and SaRodorick Thompson rushed for a 10-yard touchdown. The Longhorns got on the board with a Sam Ehlinger 10-yard touchdown run to make the deficit 14-6 with less than a minute left in the first quarter.

The Red Raiders were able to maintain their lead, with a 21-1 margin, until the 8:13 mark of the second quarter. After a Texas Tech kickoff, the Longhorns went for the home run ball on their next possession. On the first play of the drive, quarterback Sam Ehlinger found Devin Duvernay open for a 75-yard touchdown pass, which tied the game at 21-21.

The Longhorns defense then forced a three-and-out on the Red Raiders' next possession. Texas then took up almost all of the remaining time in the first half with a 13-play, 74-yard drive that took 5:36 off the clock. Roschon Johnson's 1-yard touchdown run gave Texas a 28-21 lead going into halftime.

Texas Tech took the opening drive of the third quarter down to the Texas 18-yard line, but an incomplete pass from Duffey to Carter on a 4th & 4 turned the ball over on downs. Texas then scored again with another Ehlinger touchdown pass; this time for 26 yards to Jake Smith.

The 35-21 deficit proved insurmountable as the Longhorns added two more Roschon Johnson touchdown runs to complete their scoring.

Ehlinger accounted for three Longhorns touchdowns as he went 19/27 passing for 348 yards with two passing touchdowns and no interceptions. Texas running back Roschon Johnson carried the ball 23 times for 105 yards with 3 touchdowns, averaging 4.6 yards per carry.

Texas Tech's defense was shorthanded on Friday with Jordyn Brooks out with an upper body injury. On the offensive side of the ball, Duffey went 36/58 passing for 399 yards with 2 touchdowns and no interceptions, However, the QB fumbled the ball away for a turnover in the second quarter.

Texas' offense was perfect on Red Zone scoring, going 5 for 5 with 5 touchdowns. The Red Raiders went 3 for 5 on Red Zone scoring, only earning 2 touchdowns and a field goal. Texas also out-gained Texas Tech offensively, 610 yards to 470 yards, and the Longhorns had 262 rushing yards on 48 rushing plays.
