A Texas Tech tennis player has won a regional title for the second time in a row.

Gonzalo Escobar lost just one set in winning the 2011 United States Tennis Association/Intercollegiate Tennis Association Texas Regional Singles Championship.

Escobar beat Texas A&M’s Jeremy Efferding 6-2 and 6-3 to win the title for the second straight year. He is currently ranked 11th nationally.

Texas Tech head coach Tim Siegel said “He can defend against you and he can also bring you in because his passing shots are the best in college tennis.”

Escobar will compete in the USTA/ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships, which will be held November 3rd through the 6th at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing, New York. The top 32 players in the nation compete in that particular event.
