As the Chron.com report points out, Plains is in the middle of an oil patch and while they may not have a lot of people, they are rich in oil money.
Per lead architect Stephen Butler of A&E Design Group, Inc., the small town's geographical location has been advantageous to reinvest in sports in the area.
"It's very rich and not many people live there. The [town is] right smack dab in the middle of the oil field," Butler said to Chron on Monday. "And the taxes, if you don't spend money on bond issues, it gets sent down to the Rio Grande Valley, where there's poorer school districts ... So they pass bond issues in order to pay off their bonded indebtedness with their tax monies."
Plains ISD posted about the new facility on Facebook.
The student athletes will love it. That is for sure. Plains, Texas is located over an hour southwest of Lubbock.
